Treating Addiction: Buy Nothing Day

There’s only one way to avoid the collapse of this human experiment of ours on Planet Earth: we have to consume less.

Palin: Obviously I have of course all my life read.

Oprah Winfrey recently asked Sarah Palin about her strange inability last year during an interview with Katie Couric to name a single book, magazine or newspaper that she had read.

Winfrey: Why didn’t you just name some books or magazines?

Palin: Well, and obviously I have of course all my life read. I’m a lover of books and magazines and newspapers.

Winfrey: Was it that you couldn’t think of any in the moment?

Palin: No, it was more like, ‘Are you kidding me? Are you really asking me?

To me, it was in the context of, ‘Do you read? How do you stay informed, you’re way up there?’

It seemed like she was discovering this nomadic tribe, a member of a tribe from some Neanderthal cave in Alaska, asking me, how do you stay in touch with the real world?

Frankly, the problem is not that Palin drew a blank during a high-pressure campaign interview. The problem is that she paints herself as a victim.

This does seem to be a common tactic of conservatives. Dialogue is non-existent. As soon as they are questioned they turn on the questioner. If some one actually disagrees with them they don’t respond, they lash out with their tired, worn-out epithets: Liberals, Leftist media, Radicals, Anti-American, Gotcha Tactics, Not Real Americans, Socialists, Communists, Helping the terrorists, Fascists, Hitler, Nazis, Not born in America, Muslims, Reverse racist, Appeasers, Promoting the Homosexual Agenda, Anti-Christian, the War On Christmas.

Ann Coulter takes this to a point which is mind-boggling. When the “9/11 widows” said something Ann disagreed with, she complained that they were clearly being used by liberals because conservatives would feel uncomfortable attacking them!

Oh, well, and obviously you will have of course noticed that Sara Palin is still avoiding the question.

Registered Republican sex offender Blake Hall

Hell hath no fury like a powerful Idaho Mormon Republican in heat.  The crazed rants of Senator Larry Craig still echoing faintly in the Capitol rotunda were drowned out this week when Blake Hall pleaded guilty to stalking.

Blake Hall is an important Republican and a busy man – General Counsel to the Republican National Committee, former Idaho State Republican Chairman, member of the Idaho State Board of Education,  prosecutor, county attorney, as well as head of a law firm which does $600,000 in state business annually.

Despite these commitments he was still able to find time to repeatedly harass and terrorize a former lover. His violent, obsessive behavior included driving by her house and throwing used condoms on her lawn.

Like Larry Craig, Blake Hall behaved badly for many years before he ran afoul of the law.  His powerful Republican and Mormon friends protected him (and continue to protect him).

As Larry Craig famously said of Bill Clinton, “[He's] a bad boy – a naughty boy…probably even a nasty, bad, naughty boy.”

C Street altar boys molested by Catholic bishops

The Christianists (Democrat and Republican alike) from the C Street Clubhouse have seen the light and attached anti-abortion language to the healthcare bill.  In this case the light was generously provided by the Pope through his earthly representatives–the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops.

The typical C Street Family member is an Evangelical Christian supremacist who has a particularly difficult time keeping his dick in his pants.  The typical Catholic bishop never met a sexually-abusive priest he didn’t like.

These Criminals of Modern Christianity have put aside their traditional differences to impose their anti-sex, anti-contraception, anti-abortion, and anti-woman philosophy on America.

If Hell didn’t exist, it would be necessary to invent one to accomodate these gentlemen.

Monsters from the far right

con-card-shaflycon-card-armeyWhere did they all come from? And can we get them to go back there?

(Right after I did these I discovered some fantastic, grotesque 2008 Republican Halloween masks from Ethan Persoff. Great Strange minds think alike.)

The Rich: Won’t you help?

Sarah Palin: Is is fame yet?

Levi Johnston, the low-life father of her daughter’s out-of-wedlock child, now earning a living by exposing his genitals for a magazine, has revealed that she often called her Down Syndrome son “retard”.

Meg Stapleton, her personal spokesperson, issued a vehement denial and went on to question Johnston’s motives:

Consider the source of the most recent attention-getting lies: those who would sell their body for money reflect a desperate need for attention and are likely to say and do anything for even more attention.

Speaking of doing desperate things for money…click here to see a picture of Meg Stapleton on television dressed in a Santa costume being attacked by a reindeer.
